Land of white ghosts...

In Dutch mythology and legends, the Witte Wieven (also known as Wittewijven) are spirits of "wise women" (or else elven beings). The mythology dates back at least to the pre-Christian era (7th century AD) and was known in the present-day regions of The Netherlands

On cold foggy mornings, the count used to see white flares of mist, that he believed were spirits. The story goes that they stole his horse and threw a speer at him.  The legend still lives strong in my home land.

Captured one morning, dreaming of that time...

With your description, Petra, The Mists of Avalon comes to mind! I feel a kinship to that land of white ghosts!

You know I'm loving this!

A very artistic pic, thanks for your explanation, too! The photo reminds me of a Japanese drawing, very mysterious and poetic, or of Romantic poems!

Agree with Philine, has a very Japanese feel to it - probably the mist flattening the perspective. Lovely atmosphere and enjoyed the description.
Grain works really well here. You've created a very atmospheric & spectral mood, Petra.

Nice story to complete the picture I love it (what ISO did you use?)

Eleven muses of the greek mythology? I wonder.

Excellent picture to accompany the Witte Wieven legend.

Looks Japanese. Lovely shot. I'd warm it up just a tad.

Even the duck in the foreground looks lost in all that foggy mist Petra. This is a really atmospheric image and supports your story beautifully. mal

As with many of your images I've seen so far, I love the atmosphere and the filmic quality of this image. I'd be curious to know how you got this grain.
This is beautifully atmospheric. The grain adds a very mysterious and melancholic dimension. I would happily have this on my wall!

I really like the atmosphere here, very Japanese (which is a plus in my book)
A great photo, Petra.
(Are there witte wieven on the water, or only in boggy areas?)
The grain really adds to the myth of this. Did you add noise or did you shoot a high ISO? This is a nice erie shot. I like it.

This does have a lovely feel about it, just enough detail to keep me interested.

wow this is spectacular. i agree about the sumi-e references.
Really beautiful. The graininess works perfectly and the sparse detail is perfect too.
